Along with snack time, homework time and free time, the following enrichment activities are offered:

  • Diversity education is a unique component of Kids' Academy. Fun projects like making snacks from different cultures give kids memorable experiences about other cultures. By learning about children around the world, students discover what makes people similar and celebrate what makes them unique.

  • Daily arts and crafts activities provide opportunities for learning, expressing creativity and for just having fun.
  • Recognizing the importance of physical activity, Kids' Academy participates in the Presidential Fitness Challenge. Kids take a fitness assessment at the beginning of the year and then enjoy physical activities every day. At the end of the year, they take a second assessment, allowing them to see their improvement and learn the value of a healthy body.
  • Healthy Learners is a new component of our after school program that teaches students the importance of good nutrition. Kids are served healthy snacks daily. Once a week they meet with a nutritionist to learn about the importance of eating well.

Kids' Academy also partners with other community agencies to provide additional activities and programs for our students.

STAMP

Science, Technology and Math Program

STAMP allows students to explore careers in fields they may not otherwise be exposed to. Through fun, hands-on activities, students are introduced to scientific concepts. Studying scientists and mathematicians shows students how real people work in these fields, encourages them to see themselves doing such work and helps them overcome the barrier of stereotypes.

Girls' Circle

This important program empowers girls (aged 9-16) to take charge of their personal and educational development through promoting gender equity, reducing teen pregnancy and creating confident young women capable of making informed decisions.

Personal development topics include assertiveness, communication, self-care, healthy body image andpuberty.

Critical information on pregnancyprevention, abstinence and STD/HIV prevention helps girls make good choices for their health and their futures.

Girls explore math, science and technology in a non-competitive, hands-on learning environment and meet women who have excelled in these career fields.
